Happy October!

I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers. It would be terrible if we just skipped from September to November, wouldn't it?

October’s flower of the month is the Marigold.

The marigold symbolizes –

  • Despair and grief over the loss of a loved one
  • Beauty and warmth of the sun
  • Winning the affections over someone
  • Creativity and the drive to succeed
  • Desire for wealth
  • Cruelty and coldness due to jealousy
  • Sacred offerings to the Gods
  • Remembering and celebrating the dead
  • Promoting cheer and good relationships.
As for marigolds, poppies, hollyhocks, and valorous sunflowers, we shall never have a garden without them, both for their own sake, and for the sake of old-fashioned folks, who used to love them.

Great Sun above me in the sky, So golden, glorious, and high, My petals, see, are golden too; They shine, but cannot shine like you. I scatter many seeds around; And where they fall upon the ground, More Marigolds will spring, more flowers To open wide in sunny hours. It is because I love you so, I turn to watch you as you go; Without your light, no joy could be. Look down, great Sun, and shine on me!

The marigold holds a secret message for us –

The marigold tells us that we all have our own special beauty and that we should share the beauty we have inside of us with the world. The marigold reminds us to cherish what we have – because there is no one else like you in the world!

It does not matter if you are a rose or a lotus or a marigold. What matters is that you are flowering.
